Airport/next time

Dyptich, 100 x 65 cm and 85 x 65 cm

2022

Oil on linen

"Airport" captures the intersecting worlds of two different people in an airport setting. The colourful diptych tells two different stories, two different perspectives of the airport experience. On one side, we see a hardworking airport cleaner, going about her duties in the bustling airport. On the other side, we see a lone traveler, waiting for his flight. It portrays the contrast of the two lives and the sense of isolation and desolation that an airport can evoke. The painting invites us to ponder on the fleeting nature of human interactions and the irony of being in the same place at the same time but never really interacting. As a commentary on the fast-paced and transient nature of modern life, where people come and go in a blink of an eye.
